I'm Addicted To Jesus

THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG

Addiction is real...

Every day, people find themselves bound by alcohol, drugs, prescription medications and other substances that may have started as an escape, a way to cope, or something they believed they could control. But somewhere along the way, the thing they reached for began reaching back—and what once offered temporary relief became bondage.

Addiction doesn’t only affect the person struggling with it. It reaches into marriages, families, friendships and futures. It can steal years, destroy relationships, rob people of hope and, far too often, take lives.

That is why “I’m Addicted To Jesus” is more than just a song to me.

It’s part of my story.

I was saved at an early age and began my journey with Jesus, but through influences, choices and some very difficult seasons of life, I found myself living two lives. I knew Jesus, I knew the truth, I knew the presence and power of the Holy Ghost—yet I was traveling down a very destructive path. I was no longer in ministry, and had been in the corporate world for many years. I had lost my marriage, which had left me in a very lonely and dark place. 

Alcohol became part of a destructive path that was slowly taking control of my life. I thought I was in control, but I was very mistaken. I still loved the Lord, still went to church, would sing       occasionally, and still had a desire to be in ministry... BUT...

That road was trying to take my life.

But... Then Jesus set me free!

I know what it is to be bound, and I know what it is to be delivered. I experienced total deliverance through the power of the Holy Ghost. Jesus didn’t simply help me manage what had control of me. He broke the bondage and gave me freedom. That has been over 5 years ago, and I haven't touched it or desired it since. 

That experience is at the heart of “I’m Addicted To Jesus.”

The title intentionally takes a word we normally associate with bondage and turns it into a declaration of freedom. I once knew what it was to depend on something that was destroying me. Today, my dependence is on the One who delivered me.

And that is the message I want someone who may still be struggling, or a family praying for a loved one...

There is hope! There is freedom! There is deliverance! In the Mighty name of Jesus!

So when you hear the words “I’m Addicted To Jesus,” you’re hearing more than a song.
